Jon Collins

journalism

I’ve worked as a digital and radio reporter for Minnesota Public Radio News since January 2012. In addition to daily reporting on everything from crime to baby zoo animals, I’ve done sustained reporting about the state’s opioid overdose epidemic and police accountability. I co-created a podcast about the killing of Philando Castile called 74 Seconds, which won a Peabody Award, a Livingston Award and top honors at the Third Coast International Audio Festival.

I've appeared on media venues including NPR, the BBC, Slate's What Next and Vox's Today Explained. My work has been featured in publications ranging from the New Yorker to Time Magazine

I currently focus on criminal justice for the MPR News Race, Class and Communities team. Send me tips if there's something we should know about!

I’m a former board member of the Minnesota chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors.
